Janhvi Kapoor on Why She Avoids Big Commercial Films: ‘Glamour and Popularity Are Easy’

Janhvi Kapoor is pushing Ulajh, a film by Sudhanshu Saria, hard. She is currently getting ready for her next film, Ulajh, after receiving excellent feedback for her performance in Sharan Sharma’s Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, in which she starred alongside Rajkummar Rao. A number of less commercial productions, including Ulajh, Mili, and Goodluck Jerry, are scattered across Janhvi’s career graph. She stated in a recent interview that she was more fulfilled by these initiatives than by going the “easier” way and working on a major motion picture.

Janhvi stated, “Main bohot hi asaan journey chunn sakti thi,” in an interview with Mashable. Main badi commercial films kar sakti thi jahan glamour hota, bohot asaani se reach milta, popularity ho jaata, box office ka number assured hota. Main iss film ki jagah ya mere pichle kuch filmon ki jagah. Voh asaan voyage bohot hai. Haha, usme success rate is practically a given. “I could have chosen a very easy journey,” but “isme bohot risk hai” I could have done a major commercial film with a glamorous role, easy access, guaranteed popularity, and high box office receipts in place of the work I’ve completed.

I am aware that this is a harder and longer game. I am aware that, given the high-risk character of the movies I have selected, there have, in all likelihood, been more busts than hits at the box office. However, I believe that taking the more difficult path has not been as rewarding for my artistic development as it has been,” she continued.

In Ulajh, Janhvi Kapoor plays Suhana, a young diplomat with a vital job at the London embassy who becomes entangled in a cunning personal plot. She finds herself buried under the weight of her legacy and in a web of deceit, where every ally could become enemy, as she negotiates the complexity of her job that will define her career. Ulajh tells a compelling story of betrayals, conspiracies, and traps that will leave audiences in suspense and filled with heart-stopping moments.
