Amar Singh Chamkila’s Friend Reveals: ‘He Lied to Amarjot About 1st Marriage, Mentioned Dead Brother’s Wife..

Famous for his vivacious Punjabi songs, both liked and criticized, the late singer Amar Singh Chamkila was frequently referred to as the Elvis of Punjab. His spouse, singer Amarjot Kaur, frequently joined him on stage. According to his friend and musician Kesar Singh Tiki, Chamkila didn’t tell Gurmail Kaur about his prior marriage before he married Amarjot. Tiki previously told RPD 24 that Amarjot’s family thought about putting her in a relationship with Kartar Ramla following several fruitful years of touring together. Saying, “If Chamkila wants to marry me, then I am ready for it,” Amarjot, however, seemed uninterested.

Chamkila consented to marry Amarjot after Tiki discussed it with her that evening. Chamkila lied to Tiki when she questioned him about his prior marriages. “I inquired about Chamkila’s prior marriages,” Tiki remarked. He told me falsehoods, saying, “My family wants me to marry my brother’s widow, but I’m not married.” Tiki quickly set up the wedding in Phagwara after receiving confirmation from both parties. During the night, he chatted with the priest and set up the tent. Tiki departed with Amarjot the following day after sending Chamkila to Phagwara the previous evening. His parents were there to greet and bless the newlyweds already. The pair left for Ludhiana and returned a week later. “Overnight, I prepared the tent. At the gurudwara, I talked to the priest, Gyani Saab. “I requested that he complete the Anand Karaj in ten minutes as opposed to two hours,” he remarked.

Parineeti Chopra’s role, Amarjot, in Imtiaz Ali’s film Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh, is depicted as being ignorant about her husband’s previous marriage. However, Chamkila’s songwriter, Swaran Sivia, stated in a previous interview that Chamkila told Amarjot the truth about his first marriage before they were married. According to Jaswant Kaur, Amarjot’s sister, the family was only made aware of Chamkila’s first wife following the birth of Amarjot and Chamkila’s child.
