“I would like to put all rumors about me joining politics to rest,” stated Sanjay in a tweet. I’m not running for office or joining any parties. I will be the first to declare my intention to enter politics, should I decide to do so. Please don’t believe the rumors that are currently circulating in the media about me.”

Sanjay’s connection with politics

Sanjay has previously denied rumors that he was going to enter politics. According to the Free Press Journal, he refuted Maharashtra minister Mahadev Jankar’s 2019 claim that he would become a member of his party, Rashtriya Samaj Paksha. He had already been convinced to run for the Samajwadi Party in the 2009 Lok Sabha election by a close friend. But he pulled back. The Samajwadi Party general secretary position was thereafter given to him. December 2010 saw him leave that position. Congress MP Sunil Dutt was the late actor and father of Sanjay. Actors Govinda and Kangana Ranaut have entered politics. Kangana is a Mandi-based BJP candidate running for office. Govinda joined the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde.
