MS Dhoni Leaves CSK in Tears, Shocks Teammates on IPL Eve: Emotional Scene Unfolds in Dressing Room

You never know with MS Dhoni. It took place in 2019, in 2015, and now in 2024. Dhoni always appears to be pulling something unexpected out of the bag, as seen by his decision to step down as captain of the Chennai Super Kings. Although the writing was on the wall, Dhoni and CSK dropped a massive bombshell the night before the 17th IPL season began, naming Ruturaj Gaikwad as their new captain. It hit hard and signaled the end of an era. That was the situation, at least, in the camp of CSK. Coach Stephen Fleming disclosed that Dhoni made the entire choice, but it affected a lot of the boys emotionally. Nevertheless, the team is thrilled that Gaikwad is taking on a new captaincy and is eager for a fresh, hopefully fruitful chapter to begin.

“There were many different feelings as Dhoni announced the news. a great deal of tears. In the changing room, not a single eye was dry. Everybody was touched. Fleming stated, “We weren’t as ready for MS to relocate and for a change in leadership the last time (when CSK changed the captain). A round of congratulations was also given to Ruturaj. Although he doesn’t speak up much, he can guide us on the right path. CSK has let go of Dhoni as captain before. This is not the first time. Make an effort, at least. They executed a similar prank in 2022 when they gave the keys to Ravindra Jadeja, but had to change their minds after CSK had a poor start to the season. Even though it was too late to stop the harm at the time, Dhoni guided them to victory the next year. Fleming acknowledges that two years ago, CSK wasn’t prepared for the change, but this time around, they seem to be in a good place with Gaikwad.

“Well, the big thing about a couple of years ago was that we probably weren’t ready for MS to move aside,” Fleming explained. And that’s probably what shook us coaches and us as a leadership group into considering the idea of his leaving. It was nearly unimaginable before that point, yet it planted the seed. Therefore, we’ve put a lot of effort into ensuring that any errors committed back then don’t happen again. Moreover, the leadership is open to the public.” Before telling the management about his plan to step down, Dhoni first broke the news of his desire to quit to his teammates and the CSK support staff, leaving everyone stunned.
