Irfan Pathan Honest Assessment: MS Dhoni’s Potential Role in IPL 2024 Revealed

Chennai Super Kings will play in the 2024 Indian Premier League on Friday as the side takes on Royal Challengers Bengaluru to kickstart the 17th edition of the greatest T20 franchise tournament. The match will also see Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s return to competitive cricket activity for the first time since the final IPL. Be that as it may, there remains significant speculation over the role the CSK captain will play this year.

After the IPL, Dhoni had knee surgery last year. Although he is healthy for the upcoming season, CSK is having serious issues with their batting order. The team did purchase Rachin Ravindra at the auction last year, but the 2024 tournament will be the young Kiwi’s first time competing in the competition.

Devon Conway is also out of the season; Shivam Dube is also out; and Ambati Rayudu has retired. There are a lot of rumors that Dhoni might go up in the batting order as a result of significant absences. In the last two seasons, the captain of CSK has mostly batted in the lower order and limited his batting appearances to cameos, depending more on his leadership skills to lead the team to victory.

It seems improbable that a change would occur, according to former all-rounder Irfan Pathan. Pathan told Star Sports that he met with Dhoni “a few days ago” and that although the CSK captain’s knee is healthy, Dhoni won’t use it as an opportunity to market himself.

Will the old-fashioned Dhoni be available too? As Pathan discussed Dhoni’s fitness, he pondered. Over the previous two years, his role has evolved. He is a lower-order player who plays fewer deliveries but makes huge shots with a high strike rate. Though brief, this inning is unforgettable.

That won’t be changing much this year, in my opinion. He’ll keep playing that part and wants to use his captaincy to help. The former all-rounder, who worked under Dhoni at CSK, stated, “But there won’t be complaints if he treats the fans with more.”

For the first IPL match, CSK will welcome RCB to Chepauk. Along with Dhoni, another great Indian, Virat Kohli, is expected to play again. Since January of this year, Virat Kohli has not played cricket. He pulled out of the five-test series against England to spend time with his wife, Anushka Sharma, following the birth of their second child, a son named Akaay.
