Harry Brook Emotional Note as Family Tragedy Leads to IPL 2024 Withdrawal

Harry Brook, an English cricketer, decided not to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after his grandmother passed away. In January, Brook had previously withdrawn from England’s most recent Test tour to India due to personal matters. The 25-year-old has now revealed that his grandmother’s illness and short life span were the primary causes of his absence throughout the trip. After the team paid INR 4 crore to get his services in December of last year, Brook said on Wednesday that he will not be playing for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

He shared on his official social media accounts, “I can confirm that I have made the very difficult decision not to play in the upcoming IPL.” “I was ecstatic to be selected by Delhi Capitals and couldn’t wait to get together with everyone.” “Although I don’t think I should have to explain my reasoning for my choice, I am aware that many people will want to know. I do wish to communicate this, then. “I lost my grandmother last month—she was a rock for me and I spent a lot of my early years at her house; she and my late grandfather influenced my outlook on life and my love of cricket.”

Before the team left their training camp in the United Arab Emirates, Brook had pulled out of the five-Test series against India. Although Brook mentioned in his post that her grandma was unwell at the time, the cause for his departure was not disclosed at the time. “I decided to leave the India Test tour the night before we flew from Abu Dhabi to India because I was told for the first time that my grandmother was ill and didn’t have long left,” he stated. Since Mom died away, my family and I are in pain, and I need to be with them. “In the past few years, I’ve learned to put my family’s mental health and well-being first; nothing matters more to me than my family.” Brook was a Sunrisers Hyderabad player in the previous Indian Premier League. In 12 Test matches, he has scored four hundreds for England. However, after a lackluster rookie performance the previous year, he was cut by the team.

DC’s first match on March 23

On March 23, the Delhi Capitals will play the Punjab Kings in the first game of the 2017 IPL season. However, they have not yet revealed who will play in Brook’s place. The biggest news for the team, notwithstanding Brook’s exit, is still the return of ace wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who rejoins the league after an almost 14-month absence due to a near-fatal automobile accident in December 2022. Pant was cleared to play in the IPL after the NCA deemed him fit earlier this month.
