Former KKR Star Delivers Wake-Up Call to Shreyas Iyer for Prioritizing Franchise Camps over Ranji

Brad Hogg, a former spinner for KKR and Australia, chastised Shreyas Iyer for choosing to join an IPL team rather than play domestic cricket in order to prepare. After losing his BCCI central contract, Iyer has been the subject of scrutiny as critics and former cricket players have voiced their opinions, with Hogg joining the chorus. Additionally, according to certain accounts, Iyer attended the training camp with the Kolkata Knight Riders while absent from the Ranji Trophy which also miffed the BCCI.

When you are cut from the senior national team, Hogg claimed, you have to play domestic cricket unless you are a player of Virat Kohli’s caliber.

Prior to the forthcoming season, Cummins—who cost SRH an incredible INR 20.5 crore—was chosen the starting captain. Hogg believes he is going to go through a transitional period because he is still learning about the franchise. “The only negative aspect of Pat Cummins joining the (SRH) team as captain is that he hasn’t had much time to get to know the group. He needs to become familiar with the franchise, and I anticipate a transitional phase there. However, I believe Cummins is strong and capable of overcoming that. I believe that will be a wise purchase. Before going out there, he will research the optimum combination in great detail.”
