Ajmer Dargah Chief Offers Key Advice for Resolving Gyanvapi and Mathura Mosques Dispute

The Chief of Ajmer Dargah, Syed Zainul Abedin, has stated that disagreements over the Gyanvapi and Shahi Idgah mosques in Varanasi and Mathura should be resolved peacefully, outside of the legal system. He suggested that mutual consent should be used to settle any disagreement. Speaking at the “Paigam-e-Mohabbat Hum Sab Ka Bharat” conference, which was organized by the All India Sufi Sajjadanshin Council’s Rajasthan branch, Abedin stated that by adopting the civilization of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, India is contributing positively to the restoration of global peace, according to the report. India is contributing to global peace; thus, attempts should be made to settle domestic disputes in our nation amicably outside of the legal system. Strong initiative is all that is required,” he stated.

He added that the Citizenship Amendment Act is being misrepresented to the Muslim community. The truth is that, following a thorough examination of the Act’s provisions, we discovered that the legislation has no bearing on Indian Muslims and will not have any impact on them. The oppressed minority immigrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan will profit from it. Nobody’s Indian citizenship will be revoked as a result of this,” he continued. He said that as the legislation makes no such provision, no Indian’s citizenship can be revoked.

The Hindu side asserts that the Mughals constructed the mosques on the foundations of the temples they destroyed. A Varanasi court earlier this month permitted the family of a priest to offer Hindu prayers in one of the basement chambers of the Gyanvapi mosque. The Hindu side contends that after demolishing a Hindu temple, the mosque in Varanasi—which stands next to the historic Kashi Vishwanath temple—was constructed, as per the court-ordered ASI study. They stated last month that the agency had discovered inside the mosque the ruins of a temple.
