IPL 2024: 3 Teams Facing Injury Concerns A Month Before the Season

On March 22, 2024, the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League will begin. Less than a month separates the start of IPL 2024, and all clubs will be hoping for a completely healthy roster to compete. Due to the volume of cricket played these days, there has been an increase in injuries, and many players are racing against the clock to be totally healthy for the 2024 Indian Premier League.

Before the IPL 2024 season, here are the three teams that may have injury concerns:

1 Chennai Super Kings

IPL

Prior to IPL 2024, the reigning champions are struggling with injuries. The three Kiwi players, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell, are out due to injuries. During the second Twenty20 International against Australia, Devon Conway suffered a thumb injury; he was unable to bat during that match. He did not play in Australia’s third Twenty20 International.

Due to a knee injury, Rachin Ravindra was unable to play in the second and third Twenty20 International matches against Australia on February 23 and 25, respectively. Due to a foot injury, Daryl Mitchell was forced to miss the entire T20I series against Australia as well as the second Test against South Africa. Whether he recovers in time for the Test series against Australia, which kicks off on February 29, 2024, and the 2024 Indian Premier League is still up in the air.

Due to a side strain, Shivam Dube, who had a fantastic IPL 2023 and was Mumbai’s in-form batting in the Ranji Trophy this year, will miss the remainder of the Ranji Trophy 2024 season. Mustafizur Rahman, the pacer for Bangladesh, needed five stitches after suffering a head injury during a practice session in Chattogram last week.

2. Mumbai Indians
IPL

Prior to IPL 2024, the MI team’s core appears to be struggling with injuries. First off, the recently named captain hasn’t played since the 2023 World Cup match against Bangladesh. Due to an ankle injury, Pandya was unable to participate in the remainder of the World Cup and the matches that followed. Even though Pandya has been training hard, it remains to be seen if he will be fully fit for the IPL.

Surya Kumar Yadav (SKY) had surgery in Germany on January 17, 2024, to repair a sports hernia. He hasn’t been seen since mid-December 2023. His chances of playing in the forthcoming IPL season are slim because he is recovering. For the past several months, Ishan Kishan has also been absent from the scene. Despite not being hurt, he has taken a hiatus from the game and has only lately begun training.

3. Gujarat Titans

IPL

IPL 2024 will not have the purple cap holder from IPL 2023. Due to an ankle ailment, Shami, who hasn’t played in a competitive cricket match since his heroics in the 2023 World Cup, will miss the 2019 IPL season. The GT team would suffer greatly from Shami’s absence, and it will be challenging to find a suitable replacement for the pacer.

Rashid Khan has spent the last few months dealing with a back ailment. He was unable to participate in the PSL, and he was also unable to attend Afghanistan’s recent visit of Sri Lanka. Khan is fighting to be fit for the 2024 Indian Premier League as he has not yet fully recovered from his back surgery. It will be a double blow for GT if Khan is unable to participate in the 2024 IPL since they will also be without their pace ace, Shami.
